Well, first, we are going to have a fun space tour in our solar system! Picture soaring through space and checking out all the incredible planets and moons that are found in our cosmic neighborhood. Like going to a huge playground of hidden wonders.
When we travel through outer space, we can see the bright Sun, our own star shining centered in our solar system. The Sun provides heat and light to all the planets and moons that orbit it — including our beloved Earth.
Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun, and it can become so hot it can melt metal! Venus has been called the hottest planet in the solar system due to thick clouds of gas that trap heat. Mars, which is known as the Red Planet, has a dusty surface and tall volcanoes. Jupiter, the largest planet, has colorful swirling clouds and a giant storm called the Great Red Spot!
Saturn is known for its beautiful rings of ice and rocks that orbit the planet. Uranus and Neptune are ice giants that glow blue and green. Their moons include Triton and Miranda, which have cool stuff on them like geysers and canyons. In fact, Pluto is popularly known as the dwarf planet that used to be the ninth and last planet of our solar system.
On our voyage we discover remarkable objects, like black holes and comets and asteroids, drifting through the void. We hear about the powerful gravitational pulls of planets and moons, the icy surface of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, where scientists believe an ocean lies under the ice that is teeming with alien life. On planets such as Jupiter and Saturn, the beauty of the Northern Lights shines where solar winds produce lovely beams of light.
